Ear plastic surgery (otoplasty)
Otoplasty, or ear plastic surgery, is an aesthetic procedure that changes the size, position or proportions of the ears. The outcome of ear correction surgery varies greatly depending on the desired changes, but these procedures generally improve self-confidence, especially in children and teenagers.
Otoplasty provides permanent improvement in the appearance of the ears thanks to discreetly placed incisions, and therefore no visible scars. In this way, otoplasty restores a balanced facial appearance and alleviates social and emotional anxiety.
Protruding ears are caused by excess cartilage behind the ear, which causes the ears to stick out noticeably from the sides of the head. To make the ears lie flatter, a wedge of cartilage is removed from the back of the ear. The process of closing the incision brings the entire ear structure closer to the head. Improving the appearance of protruding ears can help prevent or alleviate the social taunts that children and adults may face.
After the procedure, the patient remains in a bandage (dressing) for the first 3 days. During the first check-up, the dressing is removed and a regular bandage is put on, which should be worn 24 hours a day for the first 3 weeks, and then for the next 2-3 weeks only while sleeping. After the first dressing change, you can wash your head. The stitches are removed 10-12 days after the procedure. The ear takes its final shape after several months.
