Plastic surgery
Lower blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is intended to treat droopy or swollen eyelids that can cause an aging facial appearance. It can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, usually to reduce lower eyelid sagging and/or remove excess tissue in the upper eyelid. The results of the treatment can provide both aesthetic and functional benefits and are long-lasting.
Swelling and bags under the lower eyelids and hooded skin on the upper eyelids can cause the patient to appear constantly tired, sad and older. Discreet incisions are placed to remove excess skin and reposition fat deposits to restore a youthful and healthier appearance around the eyes.
Eyelid surgery can treat many signs of aging. Many patients choose lower eyelid surgery to correct:
To correct the lower eyelid, loose skin, flabby muscle tissue and bulging fat are returned to their original position. The goal is not only to remove the pouches, but also to restore the harmonious transition between the lower eyelid and the cheek. To counteract age-related tissue loss, the fatty tissue of the sacs is moved to the cheek area. If necessary, additional fat is grafted from your own body (often from the thighs) to the lower eyelid-buccal junction. The area is locally anesthetized, then a precise incision is made under the eyelashes of the lower eyelid and - depending on the stretching of the tissue - also a few millimeters outside the lateral corner. Thanks to this access, the protruding fat bulge is moved towards the cheeks. Loose skin and muscles are lifted. The angular ligament often needs to be tightened to stabilize the position of the lower eyelid. After the procedure, you should avoid physical exercise. Cooling the eyes reduces swelling. After 2-3 weeks, patients are usually ready to live in society.
Eyelid surgery will not eliminate facial wrinkles such as crow's feet (wrinkles at the corners of the eyes) or resolve discolored bags under the eyes. Because these conditions often occur concurrently with those that are treated with blepharoplasty.
